Jazz Of Jerusalem
In Sound Clips

sky.aquanet.Co.11/jjb/JJB.htm

Mention Jerusalem, and most people
think about religion or, sadly, politi-
cal strife. But visit the home page of
the Jerusalem Jazz Band, and you
may be humming a different tune.
The band's music swings, some-
thing you can experience firsthand at
their brand-new site on the World
Wide Web.
The site opens with an appropri-
ately cool graphic of a sax dripping
notes and a few simple choices: basic
information about the band, bios of
the musicians, lists of festivals where
they've appeared and a collection of
blurbs from newspaper reviews — all
positive, of course.
The biographical sketches offer a
fascinating glimpse of Israel's diversi-

The site includes
some jazz tunes
with a distinctly
Jewish sound.

ty; there are native kibbutzniks, for-
mer Soviet Jews, even an ex-
Californian in the ensemble.
The best thing about the site: a
collection of some 18 short, tantaliz-
ing sound clips, including a rocking
"Sweet Georgia Brown" and some
jazz tunes with a distinctly Jewish
sound. Click on a title to hear a snip-
pet over your computer's speakers.
Worst thing about the site: no
information about how to hear more.
Does the Jerusalem Jazz Band play in
the States? Does the group have CDs
to peddle? The site offers no clues.
Eventually, there will be links to
other jazz sites in Israel and around
the world; right now, there's just an
under construction" sign on the
links page.
Nothing fancy here, just a new
site that will please jazz buffs and
intrigue visitors interested in Israel's
rich and wide-ranging culture. Check
it out at:
