AJE Workshops

On Special Needs

The Agency for Jewish Education
has scheduled two programs about
teaching children with special needs
in the Jewish classroom. "Designing
an Effective Learning Environment
for the ADHD Student: A
Blueprint for Success" is a three-
part series presented by David
Maiseloff, MSW, ACWS, a clinical
social worker who specializes in the
diagnosis and treatment of children,
adolescents and adults with
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder. The series will be held 7-
9 p.m. on Tuesdays, Jan. 12 and 19,
at the Max M. Fisher Building in
Bloomfield Hills and Jan. 26, at the
Congregation Shaarey Zedek's
Laker Building in West Bloomfield.
This program is part of the AJE's
NIRIM Professional Enrichment
Program for Jewish Educators,
designed for teachers in congrega-
tion and other supplementary
schools. Participants will receive
two NIRIM units per session.
This program is free of charge.

Day School Teachers

Teachers from Akiva Hebrew Day
School, Hillel Day School, Yeshiva
Beth Yehuda and Yeshivas Darchei
Torah are invited to the second
annual Day School Conference 1-6
p.m. Monday, Jan.18, at the
Agency for Jewish Education in
Southfield. The program, "The
Critical Role of the Classroom
Teacher: Recognizing and Helping
the Student with LD/ADHD," will
be presented by keynote speaker
Larry B. Silver, M.D., clinical pro-
fessor of psychiatry at Georgetown
University Medical Center and
author of The Misunderstood Child.
There is no charge for this pro-
gram.
