Community
Given Award

The Jewish Community Center and _
the Jewish Federation of Washtenaw
County received a Community Service
Award from the Ypsilanti-Willow Run
branch of the NAACP for their efforts
to foster better relationships between_
Jews and blacks in Washtenaw
County.
The Jewish Federation raised money
during 1995 in response to an appeal
from the local NAACP for black
churches in the South, which had been
targets of fire bombings. An amount in
excess of S10,000 was raised by the
Jewish community. In addition, the
branch is honoring the Jewish
Community Center and its members
for its peaceful response against the Ku
Klux Klan this past June.

Ease Pain
Through Therapy

The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit will offer a class
for easing pain through the Jewish
• Life and Learning Department for
adults. The Feldenkrais method is an
educational system, which uses move-
ment to bring about improved func-
tioning.
This method helps alter behavior
that causes chronic tension and pain.
It can also work to facilitate the recov-
ery of injury or trauma. The class will
be led by Marjorie Levine, who has
practiced occupational therapy for 24
years and has a specialty in chronic
pain management and body mechan-
ics. These are "learn at your own pace"
classes for anyone who wants to expe-
rience freedom with their bodies.
Classes will be held weekly 10-11
a.m. Tuesdays and 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Thursdays. The first dates of classes
are Tuesday, Jan. 26, and Thursday,
Jan. 28, at the Kahn JCC. For 10 ses-
sions, the fee is $80 for members of
the JCC and $88 for non-members.
To register and for further informa-
tion, call (248) 661-7649.
