MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Thank you, many times over. The
outpouring of support from our community
in resoonse to Kadima's annual Benefit was
truly neartening. Knowing that there are
so many people who care, and who are
moved to do good, insoires all of us who
work on behalf of Kacima. This support
not only assists our clients in leading
independent and productive lives, but also
makes them know they are not alone.
Over the last few months I have had the
opportunity to spend more time, not only
Richard Herman, president
in many meetings and community activities,
but also with our very special clients. Through this I have learned that
sometimes the smallest pings, the smallest gesture, can mean so much.
Indicative of these experiences is our NCJW Project Friendship
Sunday Brunch. My participation in one of these brunches fostered
first-hand knowledge of what it means for Kadima clients to spend time
at a social event, simply enjoying time with 'Deers and friends, talking,
laughing and sharing. I watched faces fillec, with rapt attention during
the educational presentation that morning. It became vividly apparent
to me how much it means for our people to have things to do, no matter
big or small, and to have someone give them the same attention that
everyone wants and needs.
In the same vein, during this past fall holiday season, my daughter
and I joined our clients at a Sukkah get-together at Adat Shalom
Synagogue. Here again, I saw the clients give Rabbi Herbert Yoskowitz
their complete attention.

I witnessed the enjoyment they derived from celebrating our Jewish
heritage as they socially interacted with one another and those of us
who participated from outside their day-to-day world.
It takes so little to bring others some happiness. As an agency,
KADIMA is their hope. Much of what we so easily take for granted,
is very special for Kadima clients. We are indebted to so many
organizations within the Jewish community who provide the setting,
the programming and often funding for activities. Our clients are no
different from you and me. We all need
to laugh with friends, to give and get caring
attention, and to enjoy life's special
moments.
It would be so nice to have more people
willing to take time, be it even an hour every
so often, to share in this rewarding kind of
experience. Our newsletters will announce
future such events, which will hopefully
enable you to plan time to join us. What
a wonderful way for everyone to walk
away with a good feeling, enriching our
own lives and the lives of those Kadima
Janette Shalbth Ever. Di:
serves.

I wish you and your family a happy Chanukah.

FAREWELL TO JUDEE

Kadima wishes farewell to a long-
time friend and employee, Judee Stern
berg. It was 10
years ago when
Judee started at
Kadima in the
basement office
of our first
group home.
Back then, we
served only 6
clients and had
just two em-
ployees. How
far we have come from that time. Kadima
is now serving 150 individuals, has 50 staff
members, and has grown into a multi-
service program in the community. Judee's
dedication and commitment, warmth, and
caring, has played a large part in making

Kadima what it is today.
The title of office manager describes only
one part of her contribution to our
organization.
Yes, she has been
bookkeeper, financial advisor, and
historian.. She alone has knowledge of
every aspect of the organization in her
head. How many times we have relied
upon her to refresh our minds about how
things used to be at Kadima, to draw upon
her wisdom and judgment. But Judee is
also friend, mother, and confidant to all.
She is that special. We will all miss her,
staff, board, clients and their family
members, and even the postman. We wish
her good luck in her retirement, as she plans
to spend more time with her husband Bob
and enjoy her children and 7 grandchildren.
We hope that she will remain active in our
Kadima family.

PITT/RICHARDS
EMERGENCY FUND
ESTABLISHED

Kadima is so pleased to
announce the establishment of
the Pitt/Richards Emergency
Fund by Jeffrey Pitt and Erin
Richards. This brother-sister
team saw a need at Kadima,
and came forward to
generously respond with heart
and help. The Pitt/Richards
Emergency Fund allows Kadima
to act immediately in situations
of crisis and distress. In the past,
a timely respose has often been difficult. This fund enables us to
provide food, clothing, transportation, medical attention and shelter
at a moment's notice, when the need is the greatest. We salute
Jeffrey and Erin and invite others to join with them in this wonderful
mitzvah.

Rita Rudner headed up a most entertaining evening for Kadima supporters, October 20th at Orchestra Hall. Kadima reached a new milestone of $288,000,
including $34,445 secured through our Ad Journal. Over 1,000 attendees enjoyed the program which also included Amazin' Blue, University of Michigan's
oldest co-ed a cappella group. This year's Ad Jounal underwrote the cost of the performance. Pictured above are Kadima leadership, staff and clients.
