Jewish U," he added, "was the energy
and excitement created by so many
people studying at the same time. We
don't always gather as a community to
study."
Judah Isaacs, AJE's interim direc-
tor, sees SAJE as "a means, not an
end, to getting people excited about
Jewish education so they make a com-
mitment to it, whether under AJE
auspices or not."
"A core value of Judaism," he said,
"is that learning never stops."
But Alterman sees SAJE as an end
in itself. It's a minimal time commit-
ment. We want people to come and
enjoy themselves. For them ro take
another class later would be a bonus."
With Chanukah beginning at sun-
down Sunday, Hart hopes that gift
givers consider tuition for a SAJE
class or two:
"If you think about it, that's not a
bad gift
the gift of education."
And she's right.

All instructors have donated their
time to keep costs low: $10 per course
and $25 for unlimited courses. A
brochure of course offerings is part of
today's edition. Call (248) 661-7649
for enrollment information.
