though the cable is supporting the light
fixture ... The Venus-type statues were
mounted on specially crafted tabletops
to create a pair of dramatic pedestal
tables in the bar.
THE FOURTH Annual Michigan
Culinary Food & Wine Extravaganza is
Feb. 16, at Mac & Ray's restaurant in
Harrison Township.
It'll again benefit the Michigan Culi-
nary Team and Scholarship Fund, with
about 800 or more expected to sample
the food and wine pairings that'll be
judged by local personalities.
In support of education for chefs
hereabouts, the event will also include
meeting present and former members of
Team Michigan, dancing to Detroit
Jazz, and taking part in a silent auction
that always has interesting items.
Might not be a bad idea to start call-
ing for tickets ... Could be a sellout this
year ... Phone Mac & Ray's at (810)
463-9600, ext. 427 ... It's $75 per per-
son general admission and $125 per
person for gold salon patrons, who'll
also receive evening-long admission to
the VIP room with its bevy of special
hors d'oeuvres, open bar and table seat-
ing.
WORD IS THAT Tribute on 12
Mile, west of Orchard Lake Road, will
be the first Michigan restaurant to be
featured with pictures and three-page
spread in Wine Spectator magazine ...
Article comes out in the February 1999
issue.
The excellent five-star international
gourmet restaurant, which opened in
April 1996, has far exceeded its dreams.
General manager and maitre d' par
excellence at Tribute, Mickey Bakst, was
recently on the telephone, morning,
noon and night, raising funds for Hon-
duran victims of Hurricane Mitch ...
Mickey accumulated over $160,000 by
himself.
LA SHISH OF West Bloomfield,
with 250 seats, has been opened by
Talal Chahine in Orchard Mall ... Items
on the Middle-Eastern menu will be
previewed before possibly being served
at Chahine's five other La Shish restau-
rants ... Two more of his dining spots
are expected to open in Canton and
Livonia.

PAUL KOHN'S LA DIFFERENCE

Kosher Restaurant on Orchard Lake
Road will have its opening date delayed
... Instead of on the beginning of
Chanukah, it is expected to open on the
last dav, Dec. 20.
Paul says it won't be like any other
kosher restaurant around ... Creative
ideas with a difference in the items
served will make up what he hopes will
be a No. One attraction for diners.
