Many Grants
For Agencies
The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit is among the
agencies that received a total of
$1,430,000 in grants from the Jewish
Fund to expand health and human
services to residents of metropolitan
Detroit.
The Jewish Fund, created from pro-
ceeds of the sale of Sinai Hospital to
the Detroit Medical Center,
announced grants to 48 programs.
The Jewish" Community Center
received two grants.
One is to provide integrated recre-
ational opportunities for children and
youth with disabilities. The grant was
designed in partnership with Jewish
Family Services to provide an inclusive
day camp experience for children with
special needs in our already existing
day camp.
The other grant is for social, recre-
ational, cultural and educational pro-
grams for adults with mild develop-
mental disabilities. This program is in
cooperation with JARC and Commu-
nity Living services. The programs will
provide adults with mild disabilities
the opportunity to participate in social
outings, movies, bowling, dinners and
dances. Participants will also be
included in existing programs at the
Jewish Community Center. Once a
year, participants will have the oppor-
tunity to participate in a trip to a
nearby city or resort.
Among the recipients of the grants
from the Jewish Fund are programs
that assist low-income youth, disabled
and homeless persons, improve the
quality of life for older citizens and
provide health supports for people of
all ages .
