Scholarship

Scholarship applications are now
available for the 1999-2000 academ-
ic year for those planning to spend
the year studying in Israel estab-
lished by the family of the late Alisa
Flatow, who o was killed in a terrorist
attack in Kfar Darom, Israel, April
9, 1995. She was spending the year
studying in Israel.
Applications are available only from
the website: www.alisafund.org or
www.ou.org/alisa.
All applications must be submitted
on-line. If the application is down- °
loaded, it must be typed or completed
in a word processor format before it is
sent out. Deadline for receipt of all
completed applications is Feb. 15.

Suggestions
For Holiday

Eilu v' Eilu, the joint adult Jewish
learning project, will offer a list of
suggestions regarding the upcoming
holiday, "Celebrating Chanukah with
Friends and Family: Enhancing the
Spiritual Dimension of the Holiday,"
prepared by Beth Greenapple, music
director of Hillel Day School.
The handout contains suggestions
for individual and group activities
based on Chanukah themes. It is
designed for those who would like to
direct attention away from material-
ism at holiday time.

Filmmaker
Gives Lecture

Independent filmmaker Judith
Helfand will speak in the last of a
series of lectures sponsored by Teva:
Naturally Jewish, 7 p.m. Wednesday,
Dec. 9, at the Janice Charach
Epstein Museum/Gallery
at the Kahn Jewish Community
Center.
Teva is a program of the Jewish
Federation's Community Outreach
and Education Department devoted to
promoting the connection between
Jewish life and the environment and
creating social action projects to the
environment.
Helfand, an activist for environ-
mentally responsible health care, will
speak on "A Healthy Baby Girl." The

Do Mitzvot

Families and individuals of all ages are
invited to comfort the elderly, help at
a shelter, serve food to the hungry or
perform tasks at the annual Jewish
Federation Volunteer Extravaganza,
Friday, Dec. 25.
Starting at 9 a.m. from the Max
M. Fisher Building in Bloomfield
Hills, groups of 10 or more volun-
teers, directed by a site coordinator,
will head out to work at each loca-
tion. Many agencies are seeking vol-
unteers to relieve workers who wish
to spend the holiday with their fam-
ilies.
