AND THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT:' —Ann Jillian Max Schrut Max Schrut: Chronicler Max Schrut, a long-time photogra- pher, died Oct. 7. The Oak Park resident was 88. Schrut was the owner and opera- tor of the Blair Studio for 50 years. He photographed and recorded on audiotape many weddings and bar mitzvahs. He was the sole photog- rapher for the local Israel Bonds Office for 15 years, when he pho- tographed such dignitaries as Golda Meir, Eleanor Roosevelt and Moshe Dayan. A member of Congregation Ahavas Achim and an officer of its Men's Club, he also belonged to Pisgah Lodge of B'nai B'rith. "He opened his doors and his heart to anyone with the motiva- tion to learn. Race or social class was no barrier," said son Ralph Keith. His daughter, Sandra Weiswasser, described her father as having "unfailing courage and steadfastness. No one I know — no one — handled so nobly the cards life dealt him." "He delighted so in being able to say `Thank you' in 20 Ian- , guages — not Hello but 'Thank you.'" He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Augusta Schrut; son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Erika Keith of Ann Arbor; daughters and son-in- law, Sandra Weiswasser of Washing- ton, D.C., Bobbie and Mark Borkin of Huntington Woods, Tequila Min- sky (Marilyn Schrut) of New York; brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Sherry Schrut of California; sister, Ann Brooks of Oregon; grandchil- dren, Jonathan and Elizabeth Weiswasser, Gayle Weiswasser, Sam and Melissa Keith, Marji Keith, Julie Borkin, Michael Borkin, Lauren Borkin, Ashley Borkin and Melissa Bodkin; and great-grandchildren, Sarah and Rachel Weiswasser. He was also the beloved husband of the late Esther Schrut. The family asks that contribu- tions be made to the American Heart Association or the Jewish National Fund. And that's what frightens me. Because those women won't prac- tice breast self-examination regularly. Those women, particularly those over 35, won'_ ask their doctor about a mammogram. Yet that's what's required for breast cancer to be detected early. When the cure rate is 90%. And when there's a good chance it won't involve the loss of a breast. But no matter what it involves, take it from someone who's been through it all. Life is just too wonderful to give up on. And, as I found out, you don't have to give up on any of it. Not work, not play, not even romance. Oh, there is one thing, though. You do have to give up being afraid to take care of yourself. VAAAERICAN CANCER SOCIETY ■ 6 11 /20 Get a checkup. Life is worth it. JOY EVE ALLAUN, 51, of Fenton, died Nov. 9. Ms. Allaun was a teacher in Flint. She received her BA from Michigan State University in 1969 , her MFA from the University of Michigan in 1975 and post graduate studies at the University of Connecti- cut in 1987-88. Ms. Allaun was also active with MENSA. She is survived by her dearest friends, Ellen Crandell, Mary Devlin, Carol McArthur and Thomas Woods. Ms. Allaun was the beloved daughter of the late Bernard and the late Ruth Allaun. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery.
