Lenny Solomon and Shlock Rock
have been entertaining audiences
and listeners for the better part of
two decades. Known as the quintes-
sential satirist, Lenny puts his tal-
ents to his first children's record.
The longest song is under three
minutes, to hold the attention of
the very young; but each one is so
expertly done that everyone will
enjoy listening.
Of special note are: "Make a
Brocha," to the tune of "Heart and
Soul," "Love Your Fellow" to the
tune of "Stars and Stripes Forever,"
"Achat Shteiyim Rap"
and how did we live until now
without the "Hebrew Hokev
Pokey?" There are also cute tunes
for every Jewish holiday. My
favorite is "My Succah" to the tune
of "I'm an Old Cowhand." Lenny
Solomon and Shlock rock started
performing in the early '80s.
Borrowing from contemporary
tunes, the Shlockers got started in
the back staircases of Yeshiva
University just fooling around. So
far, they have produced twelve CD's
including Woodshlock, Manual for
the Moral Minded and Best of Shlock
Rock. In the early '90s, Lenny
Solomon made aliyah to Israel
where he lives today. (In his song
"Hachnasas Orchim" he invites all
his listeners to spend Shabbat.) All
of his work contains poignant mes-
sages about Jewish values and the
Jewish homeland. This one is a
winner.
