ARC, the 30-year-old Jewish
Association for Residential
Care, puts on a good party,
and the 350 young adults who
mingled this year at the sixth annual
preglow and cultural fund-raiser last
Nov. 5 sure had a good time.
More than 3,000 people overall
attended the event, which generated
over $1 million for JARC services to
developmentally disabled individuals.
The benefit featured a stage pro-
duction of "Evita" at the Masonic
Temple, with finger food in the
charming Crystal Ballroom before-
hand. After two hours of drinks
and noshing, the JARC support-
ers jammed the theater to watch
a touching film short created by
Fran, Victor and Bill Harder, of
Victor Harder Productions in
West Bloomfield. The film featured

Michael and Lisa Zeldes, JARC clients
who told the story of their courtship
and marriage, and have
achieved an extraordinary level
of independence, thanks to the
organization.
Part of JARC's mission is to
enable its more than . 150
clients to live as independent-
ly as possible; whether with
some form of regular assis-
tance or in one of 16 group
homes or four independent
living programs around met-
ropolitan Detroit. The
young adult committee,
chaired by Amy and Jimmy
Berlin, was created to form
increased awareness about
JARC among young Jews. The pre-
glow was underwritten by Bingham
Farms-based Rock Financial. ❑
