Science, Religion
Controversies

Dr. Jacob Trombka, a top adviser to
the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration, will speak 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Adat Shalom
Synagogue.
In a program sponsored by the con-
gregation's Adult Study Commission,
Trombka will explore longstanding
and current controversies that exist
between scientific research and reli-
gious belief in a program titled "The
Nature of Creation: Bereshit and
Modern Cosmology."
Trombka notes
that the last half-
century has yielded
most exciting dis-
coveries concerning
the nature of the
evolution of the
universe and our
solar systems. "It is
believed that a con-
Jacob Trombka
vergence in the
ideas of the nature
of creation between these modern cos-
mological theories and ideas found in
Bereshit (Genesis) and classical Jewish
texts can be achieved," he says. "We
will take a sojourn through these vari-
ous pathways and try to discover some
of these remarkable relationships."
The evening will be chaired by
