I AM MY BROTHER'S KEEPER

The story of the Jewish and non-Jewish volunteers who fought in
Israel's War for Independence

Sunday, November 8, 1998

D. Dan & Betty Kahn Building, West Bloomfield

.

Jeffrey Weiss has a masters degree in International and Compara-
tive Law from the Georgetown University Law Center. His brother,
Craig, who has a degree in Philosophy form the University of
Pennsylvania, attended Hebrew University's Junior Year Abroad
Program. He later returned to Israel to conduct interviews and to do
research for this book. Jeffrey's inspiration to write the book began
while reading a Hebrew-language biography of a famous Israeli
fighter pilot. It made him aware of the little-known story of the
large-scale North American participation in Israel's War of Indepen-
dence.

I Am My Brother's Keeper is a compelling anecdotal history that

records the heroism and courage of more than 1,000 Americans
and Canadians, Jews and non-Jews, who volunteered to fight for
the independence of the Jewish state.

Karen Kolberg, a lively corporate
consultant, author and fire-eater from
Wisconsin, revved up participants for
the Agency for Jewish Education of

Among the best-attended sessions:
Kolberg's "The Laughing Classroom,"

Education Director Fran Pearlman's
"Classroom Management Through
Effective Planning" and a panel dis-

In addition to the usual nuts and

Jewish educational issues, the confer-
