ore than 200 people gathered at Michelle Rosenthal's parents
home in Commerce Township recently to relive fond
moments from the UJA's national Israel singles mission and to
encourage others to go next year.
Rosenthal, a teacher who was on the 1996 and 1998 missions, arranged
the party as a casual affair where participants could get reacquainted and
admire each other's trip pictures. In earlier years, mission officials made their
sales pitch in a more formal meeting that lacked the personal touch.
The 1999 trip runs from July 4 to July 14 and those who sign up by Nov.
20 get a $250 discount. No price fixed yet for '99; last year the tariff was
$2,199, airfare included. Early birds also get their names thrown into a Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit hat, with a lucky winner getting a free trip.
