Co-Chair Ellen Labes and Yad Ezra President Jeffrey Appel spoke about Yad Ezra's role in feeding the hungry in the Jewish community. Citrin, to be honored at Yad Ezra's annual dinner on Nov. 4, spoke about her experiences delivering food to the needy. Susie Pappas was associate chair for the event. Susie Citrin Feted A tribute to the late Nathan Gordon, viola virtuoso with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, will take place when Temple Israel presents the musical drama, "Isaac Levi", in the Jonathan Miller Memorial Concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8. Featuring mem- bers of the DSO and the Piccolo Opera Company, the trib- ute will include Peter Gordon, son of Nathan Gordon, on the French horn. Nathan "Isaac Levi", based Gordon on episodes in the life of Isaac Levi of Berdichev (1740- 1809), is the story of a rabbi who loses his'faith. Other participants will include Cantor Robert Abelson, bari- tone; Cantor Harold Orbach, tenor; Elsie Inselman, mezzo; and Rachel Inselman, soprano. (Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge, Oak Park, Ferndale, Berkley and Royal Oak Township) Nathan Gordon served as princi- pal violist with the DSO for 27 years, was assistant principal violist in Arturo Toscanini's NBC Symphony for 15 years and was principal violist of the Pittsburgh and Chautauqua Symphonies. He was founder, music director and con- ductor of the Dearborn Symphony for its first 25 years. Gordon was a member of several 'chamber music groups, including the NBC, Mischakoff and Kroll String Quartets. He had a long history of teaching and coaching on the facul- ties of the University of Michigan, Wayne State University, Interlochen Arts Academy, Carnegie Tech and Indiana University He served for almost three decades on the Temple Israel Music Committee.
