Governor John Engler...

Experience Michigan Can't Do Without

Our Schools...Higher Scores, Safer Classrooms

John Engler has increased funding of public schools by 50% or $4 billion dollars. Funding is more fair and test scores are up. And under
his "bring a gun and you're done" program, nearly 500 law breaking students have been removed from schools so those who want to learn,
can. On top of all these accomplishments, his new Reading Plan for Michigan initiative will help ensure that all children are good readers.

Jobs...Creating Record Numbers

Under John Engler's leadership, more than 700,000 new jobs have been created. This includes more than half of the high paying manu-
facturing jobs created nationwide. To keep Michigan's economy in the fast lane, his plan focuses on both tax cuts and job training to fill the
high-tech, high-paying jobs of the future.

On Taxes...Keep Cutting

John Engler is not resting on a record of cutting taxes 24 times. He wants to cut the income tax from 4.4% to 3.9%. This is a tax cut for
everyone and will save Michigan taxpayers $3 billion over 5 years.

Reforming Welfare...Go to Work and Stay Drug Free

Michigan will continue to lead the nation by reforming welfare and helping people gain independence. His plan to test welfare recipients
and require treatment or lose benefits will help parents get off drugs, go to work, and improve the lives of their children. Because drug
abuse is child abuse.

Crime...Keeps on Dropping

Michigan's crime rate has dropped for 6 straight years, to its lowest level in 30 years, as a result of John Engler giving police and prosecutors
the tools they need to fight crime. Continuing to make Michigan a safer place to live, he will institute two dozen specific steps, including
improvements to the nation's toughest juvenile justice system.

Engler Says No to Religious Bigotry

Governor Engler respects the rich role religion plays in Michigan's spiritual and cultural life. He works with religious leaders of all faiths to
help enrich our state and believes there is no place for religious intolerance.

Let's Not Risk Michigan's Future,
