'41:)4 •4;' , All those American restaurants that served good, homemade meat loaf and mashed potatoes? ...Waitpersons who smile? ... So many places that served homemade banana cream pie? Chicken poulette, too. WHERE THEY ARE ... John Rugani, former general manager at Copper Creek Restaurant on 12 Mile ... He is now co-owner of his own place ... Brandy's Restaurant on Tele- graph, north of Square Lake Road. HE'S A RARE BREED ... Among the last of his kind ... Irving Sosnick, general manager for 20 years at the original Buddy's Pizza on Six Mile and Conant, is 84 and bounces around like he's just hit 30 ... bussing tables, greeting people, yelling hellos, helping servers behind the bar, bringing pizza, etc. . Age is far from a barrier ... Iry is sharp as ever, remembering yesteryears as though they were yesterdays ... What he has done at the Buddy's orig- inal site is remarkable, taking over an ak - 11* almost-forgotten operation and m ing it into a highly successful one. Buddy's closes at 10, but Iry is still there many times at 12:30 a.m. doing his paperwork ... He has no computer, so does it all by hand and head ... Aside from being with his wife, Joan, or their family, this is his greatest plea- sure. "My customers like it the way it is They don't want changes," says Iry about the original Buddy's site ... One time, he brought a picture up from downstairs, changed it with one in the dining room, brought a couple of lights from home, and a customer was mad because Iry "remodeled" the place ... Mad for only a moment, though, because to them, Iry can do 46 - no wrong. Customers at the 165-seater restau- rant love him ... He can say what he wants and they joke back ... To his customers, there is no one quite like him ... Buddy's Pizza brings them in the first time ... Iry brings them back for more. ❑ 10/16 1998 48034 28875 Franklin Pi. at Northwestern (Sic 12 Mile in Southfield, 'vii (248) 358-3355 • fax (248) 358-3227
