Fischer Series
Opens Season
Campus Leadership Initiative will go on
a retreat, leaving at 6 p.m. Saturday,
Oct. 17, from Hillel. The retreat will be
held at Camp Mystic Lake in Lake
Michigan.
Rabbi Phil Cohen will teach a Torah
class at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at
Hillel. Rabbi J. will teach at 6:30 p.m.

dinner will be provided.
"A Taste of Jewish Law" will be held
at noon Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the
Detroit College of Law building. Rabbi
Steven Weil of Young Israel, Oak Park
will discuss "The Interplay Between
Halachah and American Jurisprudence."

open-mike happy hour at 6:30 p.m.

Workmen's Circle
October Events
The Workmen's Circle/Arbeter Ring will
sponsor two organization-wide activities
this month.
It will hold its first Noch Shabbes
Potluck Dinner 6:30 p.m. Saturday,
Oct. 17, at the WC/AR building, 26341
Coolidge in Oak Park. A secular
Havdalah ceremony has been put
together.
At 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, the
season's second Kumzitz-the Schmooze
cafe will take place at the Feldmans',

topic will be "The Political Splintering

Toledo JCC
Hosts Carnival
The Jewish Community Center of
Toledo will host a community Fall
Into Fun Family Carnival noon-3
p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at 6465
Sylvania Avenue in Sylvania. The
carnival will be presented in the JCC
gymnasium as well as outdoors.
Proceeds will be used to purchase
equipment and assist in scholarships
for needy families in the area.

Class Schedule

Congregation Beth Shalom will hold fall
adult study classes 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28,
Nov. 4, 11 and 18, at the synagogue.
The classes are "Oy! Have We
Suffered!" taught by Rabbi David
Nelson, a compassionate look at Jewish
history and the role of suffering in our
tradition; "Adult B'nai Mitzvah 210"
taught by Cantor Sam Greenbaum;
"Ethical Issues from a Torah Perspective"
taught by Shoshana Ben-Ozer for par-
ents of this year's bar/bat mitzvah cele-
brants; "Compelling Biblical Figures"
taught by Myron Jackier; "Culinary
Series" taught by Fred and Debb
Goldenberg, a cooking class in 3 ses-
sions; "Film Series" taught by Rev.
Sammy Semp. This class will start at 7
p.m.
There is no charge for these classes,
except a $20 materials fee for the cook-
ing class. Registration is required. Call

Eilu v'Eilu will sponsor classes at
Congregation Beth Shalom during -
