Teva: The Jewish Environmental
Connection begins a free fall lecture
series, "Jewish Environmentalism —
Theology, Spirituality, Activism," with a
talk by Barbara Spectre, 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Max M. Fisher
Federation Building, West Bloomfield
Township.
Spectre, the Conservative congrega-
tion's scholar-in-residence, is on the fac-
ulty of Yellin College for Teachers in
Jerusalem and the Shalom Hartman
Teaching Institute of Jewish Studies.
Her topic will be "Ecology and

GIFTS OF NATURE
Adat Shalom Synagogue will host the
showing of The Long Way Home, an
Oscar-winning documentary, which tells
of the struggle of those who survived the
Holocaust. Two special showings have
been arranged by the synagogue's Adult
Study Commission, its CHaZaKaH
Seniors and the Anshei Ezra Study
Group.
Set for 2 and 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct.
25, the film covers the post World War
II period, during which survivors, in the
face of cruel obstacles, persevered to
achieve normal, dignified lives.
Following the 2 p.m. showing,
Marilyn Feingold, social worker, will
facilitate the discussion. Marilyn is an
interviewer for the Stephen Spielberg
SHOAH Project, and is, herself, a child
of the Holocaust.
After the 7 p.m. showing, Dr.
Charles Silo, psychologist, will facilitate
the discussion. Dr. Silow is director of
the DMC/Sinai Hospital program for
Holocaust survivors and their families.
The community is invited at no
charge.
The Men's Club of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek will host its annual
membership dinner, 6 p.m. Wednesday,
Oct. 21, at the synagogue.
The evening will feature dinner,
music by Carole Lasser and entertain-
ment by the Mighty Men's Club Art
Players.

Michigan Region BBYO will sponsor
a conversational Hebrew class for AZA
and BBG members, which will take

Basketball League, which will be held
