our Ethiopian-born Israeli
teens have been visiting the
Detroit area over the past
two weeks, promoting posi-
tive attitudes towards Jews, through
the Anti-Defamation
League/Michigan's "Children of the
Dream" program.
They're touring 10 area high
schools, including Birmingham
Seaholm, Ferndale, Southfield-
Lathrup and West Bloomfield, until
Oct. 21 to teach about Ethiopia and
Israel, and build what local ADL
director Don Cohen calls "bridges of
understanding."
.
They promote an understanding of
diversity and effectively shatter stereo-
types, he said.
"I don't think the kids knew about
Black Jews," said Sinyau Ora Wedage,
17, who moved to Israel when she was
4. "We have the same hobbies, listen
to rap music and like to watch televi-
sion, but in Israel we go to clubs that
are open all night."
Visiting Oak Park High School on
Wednesday, they spent the morning 6,
talking to students and visiting with --
U.S. Sen. Carl Levin, the program's
honorary chairman.
The group will visit Congregation
Shir Tikvah, Temple Israel, Temple
Shir Shalom and Young Israel of Oak
Park.
After a lunch hosted by District
Court Judge Paul Borman, the visitors
