Hunger Day
Is Recognized

Congregation Shir Tikvah will hold its
World Hunger Day Soup and Salad
Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16,
preceding Friday night's Shabbat service
at 7:45 p.m.
Shir Tikvah will be one of 100
Empty Bowl meals being served in
Michigan that day being orchestrated
by Imagine Render, an Oxford-based
non-profit organization that focuses on
social action through art.
Recommended donations of $10 per
person or $25 per family will provide a
meal and a handmade bowl to keep.
There will be a silent auction held with
the highest bidder receiving a bowl
hand-made by Shir Tikvah's Rabbi
Arnie Sleutelberg. A majority of the
money raised by Shir Tikvah will be
donated to a local food bank with the
remainder paying for the supplies used
to make the hand-made bowls.

From Oct. 18 through Oct. 31, the
public is invited to view an exhibit of
photography and journal selections
done in Israel by participants in the
Teen Mission Journal Project on display
in the lobby of the Kahn Jewish
Community Center, West Bloomfield.
The journal project was sponsored
by the Jewish Community Center of

Metropolitan Detroit and the
Michigan/Israel Connection of the
Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit. Participants chose whether to
focus on a written journal or a photo-
graphic journal.
Preparatory workshops were led by
Monte Nagler, photographer; Beth
Greenapple, former JCC Judaic
enrichment director; and Lisa -
Bernstein, JCC educational programs
coordinator.

At JPAI JCC

The Jimmy Prentis Morris Jewish
Community Center will host lunch at
noon Thursday, Oct. 15, followed by
entertainer Ida Kogan at 1 p.m. She will
,sing Hebrew, Yiddish.and Broadway
tunes, accompanied by pianist Rose
Morgan. Tickets for lunch are $2.25
and must be purchased at the reception
desk by Friday, Oct. 9. No tickets need-
ed for the concert, which is free of
charge.
* Individuals interested in creative
writing are invited to attend the Writer's
Corner, facilitated by Wayne State
University Professor Norma Goldman,
10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16.
* Flutist Sara Frank and pianist

* The Oakland County Health
Division will hold a flu immunization

with Sam Barnett and his accompanist
Fred Busch will be offered in a

gram, sponsored by DMC/Sinai
Hospital and the Jewish Community
Center, is for Holocaust survivors, their
families and friends. Donations accept-
ed.
* An adult art class for beginners,
using various media, is taught by
Harriet Gelfond, 9 a.m.-noon every
Monday, Wednesday and Friday. There
is a charge, which includes art supplies.
* "Meeting of the Minds", conduct-
ed by Dave Weiner and Sidney Miller,
10:30 a.m. every Thursday.
