Oct. 14. Rabbi Avraham Jacobovitz
will lead the lecture on "Six Short
Steps to Basic Judaism" at the Kahn

five-week crash course in basic
Hebrew, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov.
18. Jeff Perlstein will lead this series at
the Kahn Jewish Community Center.

Machon L'Torah will hold an infor-
mative Shabbat experience, 7:15 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 16, at the Jewish
Resource Center in Ann Arbor with
Rabbi Avraham and Bayla Jacobovitz.
An Oneg will follow at 9 p.m. At
12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, there
will be a Shabbat lunch and learn.
There is no charge, but reservations

The Agency for Jewish Education of
Metropolitan Detroit-Midrasha will
offer a new way to study Hebrew for
students who want to develop conversa-
tional skills and have some basic reading
skills: Hebrew Lunch and Learn.
The Beginner Plus Hebrew class
will meet noon to 1:30 p.m. on
Wednesdays at the Agency for Jewish
Education, 21550 W. 12 Mile,
Southfield, starting Wednesday, Oct.
14. Students can bring a bag lunch.

At ADL Benefit
The Capitol Steps traveling troupe of
Congressional-staffers-turned-comedi-
ans will perform at the annual "Night
of Comedy" sponsored by Anti-
Defamation League/Michigan
Chapter. The performance is at 7 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 29, at Knollwood
Country Club, 5050 West Maple
Road, West Bloomfield.
Proceeds from the evening will
benefit the ADL's programs and pro-
jects dedicated to fighting anti-
Semitism, prejudice and bigotry, and
defending democracy. An hors d'oeu-
vres buffet, cocktails and dessert, as
well as the performance, are included
with ticket purchase. Cost for the
evening is $175 per person (a tax-
deductible contribution less $55 for
food and beverage.)

the author of a
study on the his-
tory of the West
Bank prepared for
