A Helping Hand
Young Jewish adults band together with other area professionals to generate
funds for the Karmanos Cancer Institute.

lthough they call themselves
The Partners, they are any-
thing but formal. The name
f the young professional
division of volunteers for the Barbara
Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute sim-
ply says that the gist of this group —
comprised of Jewish and Gentile
young, professional leaders — is to
work together. On everything.
And that was exactly what hap-
pened on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at
the newly renovated Art Van
Furniture showroom in Warren. The
Partners and Art Van pooled their
resources to host a combination
grand opening celebration for Art
Van and the annual Partners Ball.
The black-tie event added to the
cash coffers of the Karmanos
Institute, while providing tasty cock-
tails and appetizers by Unique
Restaurant Corp., entertainment and
a silent auction.
Proceeds went toward the Suzanne
Korman Morton Cancer Research
Fund and the Karmanos Cancer
Institute's Bone Marrow Transplant
Program.
Since 1988, the Partners have con-
tributed more than $1 million to the
Institute. Event co-chairs included Jeff
Barker of West Bloomfield and
Jennifer Silverman of Bloomfield
Hills. Paul Silverman, a Jewish com-
munity activist and young leader, co-
chairs the Partners Executive
Committee.
