Chef Jim Blake are still there.
Those wonderful mahogany walls
have been renewed ... Linen covers
that now slip over the backs of chairs
reminded me of great yesteryears' din-
ing rooms on lavish cruise ships, hotel
dining rooms and legends like the
wonderful Delmonico's in New York.
Freshness always has such a big
appeal ... Both for the customers and a
restaurant's employees ... Charley's
Crab of Troy has achieved this without
altering its striking look.
THE EMPHASIS on parents and
grandparents bringing young guys and
gals to rub shoulders with their sports
heroes is a dandy ... and never
stronger ... Next Michigan Jewish
Sports Hall of Fame Induction Din-
ner, Monday, Nov. 2, at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek, should bring another
record crowd.
BOXING HAS BEEN signed up
for four evenings at Excalibur Banquet
and. Convention Center, Franklin and
Northwestern ... First one by Metro
Detroit Golden Gloves Boxing Inter-
national, was Oct. 2 ... Choices were
general admission or dinner with open
bar.
CONGRATS ... to real estate gal
Rose and Max Tolin ... on their 55th
anniversary ... To ad man Ron Hoff-

CAN ANYONE answer Madeline
Popper's query as to why there are no
good French or Spanish restaurants
here? ... Come to think of it, people
might be hard:pressed to think of a
Russian one, too.
DIXIEBELLE and the Jazz Cats are
set to put out a lot of happy toe-tap-
ping Dixieland jazz and blues, Tues-
day, Oct. 13, 8 p.m., at Jack's Water-
front Restaurant off Jefferson, between
Nine and 10 Mile Dixiebelle and
her group, play pre-game revelry at
Detroit Lions home games.
REUNION DEPT. ... Former
localite Diane Rubenstein now lives in
Minnesota, but she'll be here Friday,
