forced to change because of a conflict

Before becoming Ernest Larco's Italian
restaurant, and then having to drop
the 's, it had been Sahara West.
ALTHOUGH AL Balooly has
given Pike Street Restaurant in Pontiac
back to its previous owner, the former
bossman of Topinka's On The Boule-
vard and Topinka's Country House on
Telegraph is still a restaurant man ...
And talk is already afloat that he will
return to the dining scene.
THE AWAITED public opening of
Zoup! by Eric Ersher and David Elias
... at the former Blockbuster Video
spot in Franklin Shopping Center,
Northwestern and 12 Mile ... is this
Monday, Sept. 28.
Twelve soups will rotate daily from
over 200 preparations ... with each of
the 16-ouncers served or carried out
with a large hunk of bread ... Spicy
curried Thai seafood, Jamaican Bay
gumbo, chunky black bean with
andoulle and green chilies, Creole
chicken and sausage gumbo, Thai
shrimp, Cajun shrimp with smoked
salmon, shrimp and crawfish etoufee,
chilled Cuban shrimp and chicken,
Thai chicken ... to pepperoni pizza to
dairy-free Tuscan bean with smoked
duck to vegetarian Moroccan veg-
etable stew to smoked salmon and
wild mushroom stew ... are among the
interesting offerings.
It'll have seating for 39 ... and carry-
out will be in special containers ...
Starting hours at Zoup! will be 10:30
a.m. to 7:30 p.m. seven days a week.
TASTY DESSERTS don't come
much healthier than the refreshing
mango pudding at Shangri-La in
Orchard Mall, Orchard Lake Road
north of Maple Owner Cholada
Chan's popular offering is made with
mango fruit and gelatin ... surrounded
by fruit salad.
