The kitchen was originally two
rooms — a food preparation area
and the servants' eating area. Under
the direction of Hankis, the kitchen
was brought into the 1990s. A turn-
bled marble floor, which resembles
limestone, was installed, and Italian
cupboards in a cream painted wood-
work with pewter hardware were
added. A richly colored brown gran-
ite tops the counters and the center
island.
The butler's pantry, between the
kitchen and dining room, has the

original built-in refrigerator, which i s
still operational, and a glistening
German-made sink and counter in
sterling silver, also original to the
home. Randie Federman, ASID, of
Maxwell-Ross Associates in Troy,
coordinated the pantry with the new
kitchen while retaining its early 20th-
century flavor.
The pantry's enormous 7-foot safe,
originally installed to house the Siegel
family silver, is still there, and Feder-
man painted the room's walls cream
with black swirls to mirror the detail-
ing in the corners of the safe.
