Erica Lynn Chomsky of Southfield
will become a bat mitzvah on Satur-
day, Sept. 26, at
Congregation Beth
Shalom. Erica is the
daughter of Susan
and David Chomsky,
granddaughter of the
late Bertha and Max
Chomsky, Ruth
Goldberg of Las
Vegas and the late
Sol Goldberg of Las Vegas. Her sister,
Madison and brother, Nathan will
participate in the service.
Erica attends Hillel Day School.
Her interests include sports and drama
and she is an avid reader. Erica volun-
teers at MJAC, Michigan Jewish AIDS
Coalition, and is collecting books,
magazines and toiletries for distribu-
tion to patients.

Melissa Ashley Talon became a bat
mitzvah at Temple Shir Shalom on
Saturday, Sept. 5. Melissa is the
daughter of Neil and
Pam Talon, sister to
Stephanie and
Jaclyn, granddaugh-
ter of Morton and
Tola Gilbert,
Theodore and Anne
Talon.
She is an honor
student at Bloom-
field Hills Middle School where her
favorite subject is English. Her hob-
bies include biking, canoeing, draw-
ing, piano, reading, swimming and
white water rafting.
Her mitzvah projects included visit-
ing seniors at the Jewish Federation
Apartments, volunteering at Yad Ezra
and working as an aide at Temple Shir
Shalom's religious school.

Samantha Bebe Kalish will be called
to the Torah as a bat mitzvah at Con-
gregation B'nai
Moshe on Saturday,
Sept. 26. Samantha
is the daughter of
Mimi and Jay Kalish
and sister to Ben-
jamin and Jennifer.
Proud grandparents
are Lester and Alma
Kalish, Elizabeth
Weiss: She also is the granddaughter
of Rubin Weiss of blessed memory.
Samantha is an honors student at
Warner Middle School in Farmington
Hills. Sam enjoys sports, going to the
movies, spending time with friends

and playing the piano.
Samantha's most meaningful mitz-
vah project was assisting in a nursery
program at Congregation Beth Abra-
ham Hillel Moses with her aunt Deb-
bie Yashinsky. She plans to make a
donation of books to Jewish Family
Service in honor of her becoming a
bat mitzvah.

Alexander Edelson of West Bloom-
field will be called to the Torah as a
bar mitzvah on Sept. 26, at Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek.
The service will be
led by Rabbi Irwin
Groner and Cantor
Chaim Najman.
Alex's parents,
Lori and Robin
Edelson, his brother,
Gabe Edelson,
grandparents Nora
Stone, Irvin Kanat and Sandra Kanat,
great-grandmother Helen Kanat and
aunts, uncles and cousins will partici-
pate in the service. Alex is also the
grandson of the late Dr. William and
Lucy Edelson and the great-grandson
of the late Netta Sucher and Beatrice
Newmark.
Alex is an honor student at Berk-
shire Middle School in Birmingham.
He has earned numerous academic
awards, including the Peasley-Honn
award as all-around student of the year
at West Maple Elementary School. He
is a soccer player with the Little
Caeser's Division I team, Troy Clash.
Alex also enjoys basketball, hockey,
sailing, canoeing, kayaking, and
attending Camp Tamakwa. He is con-
tinuing his religious studies at the
Hebrew High School at Shaarey
Zedek, where he has been a student
since kindergarten.
Alex and his family will celebrate
his bar mitzvah in Egypt and Israel,
where he will participate in.a ceremo-
ny at the Wailing Wall over the winter
holidays.

Matthew Scott Benjamin will be
called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah
.on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Temple
Israel. He is the son of Marilyn and
Dr. Danny Benjamin and brother of
Ryan. Proud grand-
