Grantmakers Form Mission The United Jewish Foundation has designed a grantmakers mission to Israel to educate foundations in the general community about Jewish philanthropy, the Jewish community and its ties to Israel. The October mission will give repre- sentatives from Michigan-and Detroit- based foundations an opportunity to , explore philanthropy in Israel. Members of the United Jewish Foundation Board of Directors will participate in the mis- sion, which will be chaired by UJF pres- ident Robert Slatkin and board member Julie F. Cummings, director of the Lovelight Foundation. Mission members will meet with leaders of Israeli philanthropies and visit the Central Galilee, Michigan's Partnership 2000 region in Israel. During the trip, the grantmakers will view the UJF-supported FIDEL project, which helps Ethiopian students accul- turate into Israeli society, especially Israeli schools. To date, participating general corn- munity foundations and associations include: Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan, the McGregor Fund, the Kresge Foundation, Council of Michigan Foundations and the Hannan Foundation.
