worRoff 1 SY Fine Candies ( Healthy Body, Healthy Mind Grosse Pointe Holiday Services Dr. Igor Parizh, a Russian-speaking psychiatrist, spoke on the symptoms of depression in new Americans, and the dangers of shar- ing medications, at the Sinai Hospital Guild's fourth annual new Americans event co-sponsored by the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit on Sept. '10. Igor Parizh Depression is a com- mon condition of new Americans. The program, presented in Russian without interpreters, was underwritten by the Marlene and Jerome Gropman fund for Vladimir Geller new Americans. Ben Opengeym, a new American, provided entertainment. The Grosse Pointe Jewish Council, marking its eighth anniversary this year, will conduct Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services at the Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church. Services for Rosh Hashanah will be held 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, and 9:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21. Children's services will be held from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Monday, Sept 21. Yom Kippur services will be held 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, and 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Afternoon memorial and concluding services begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30. Rabbi Nicholas Behrmann and Lay Cantor Roger Skully will lead the services, which will include an informal discussion following the Wednesday morning Yom Kippur service. GPJC traces its beginnings to a 1990, party when a small group of east-side residents came to celebrate Chanukah. Since then, GPJC has evolved into a 175-family organiza- tion offering an array of cultural, educational and social forums. GPJC conducts Shabbat services and life cycle observances, including bar/bat mitzvahs. It offers adult cul- tural and educational programs, which include book, film and dinner clubs, a community seder and an annual family picnic. It boasts a pro- fessionally taught children's religious school, and an annual children's Chanukah party and Purim carnival. Radomer Society Plans Yizkor The Radomer Mutual Society of Detroit will hold its annual yizkor ser- vice at Chesed Shel Ernes cemetery 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27. Rabbi Herbert Yoskowitz and Cantor Max Shimansky will officiate. All members, friends and their chil- dren are welcome to attend and corn- memorate the approximately 30,000 Jews who perished from the Radom area of Poland during the Holocaust. JWV Auxiliary Meeting Set Hot sun, cool breezes and loads of food were all part of the Grosse Pointe Jewish Council's annual family picnic.
