In Israel, the organization has built

two modern hospitals: Mt. Scopus

Hadassah has built a world-
renowned research medical facility,
including medical, dental and nursing
schools, a college of technology and a
career counseling institute.
Locally, Hadassah's goal is to act as
a powerful and positive force in the
Jewish and greater Detroit communi-
ties by fostering Jewish values and
identity, promoting health awareness
and providing personal growth for its
members through educational, spiritu-
al and social opportunities.
Hadassah is planning many pro-
grams, beginning with its opening
meeting at Temple Israel on Sept. 15

women's volunteer organi-
zation and the largest
Zionist organization in

Chicago Tribune.
Hadassah Day at Jewish Book Fair
is Nov. 10 when Robert Rockaway
will speak on his book, Words of the
Uprooted: Jewish Immigrants in Early
20th Century.
"Gently used" clothing is needed
for the annual rummage sale Nov. 12-
15. Collection of clothing starts at
Hadassah House on Nov. 1.
The third night of Chanukah is a
national mitzvah day when Hadassah
members and their families through-
out the country celebrate Chanukah
with senior citizens.
Changes is a series of lecturQs at the
Hadassah office, in the winter months,
featuring Esther Tarnoff Cooper,
Evelyn Orbach and Jeff Zaslow. These
will be held in conjunction with lunch
or dinner.
A women's symposium, "Body,
Mind, Heart and Soul," on health
and social issues for women, will

take place on May 23, 1999. The
keynote speaker will be Dr. Saralyn
Mark, senior medical advisor,
Department of Health & Human
Services, who has recently been
selected as an astronaut by the U.S.
space program.
The Race for Research will be on
Aug. 29, 1999. This community-wide
event will raise funds for genetic
research and will be for runners, walk-
ers and families with youngsters and
babies in strollers.
The Greater Detroit Chapter of
Hadassah is committed to sponsor-
ing tutorial programs in private and
public schools, a doll project in con-
junction with local hospitals and a
Breast Cancer "Check It Out" pro-
gram in local high schools. It also
supports advocacy for women's socia
and health issues along with many
other ongoing civic-minded activi-
ties serving to keep Hadassah strong
by meeting the needs of today's
women.

dren.
It continues to raise funds for the
new state-of-the-art active rehabilita- ...,

various disabilities.
