City Of Hope Offers Help T his month, City of Hope's Sophie & Harry Hoffman Chapter and Reva Greenspan-Helen Rosenberg Chapter will officially merge to form an alliance of 300 dedi- cated volunteers and fund-raisers. This newly-merged coalition will spotlight City of Hope's presence in the metro Detroit area, building a stronger foundation and a more unit- ed front, and will pave the path for new auxiliary members to join metro Detroit City of Hope volunteers in their fight to eradicate serious illnesses such as cancer. The chapter will continue to spon- sor a Golf Classic and a Walk for Hope Against Breast Cancer ad jour- nal. In it's ninth year, the 1998 Golf Classic raised $60,000 to benefit the Phoebe Yauck Research Fellowship Fund established in 1996 at City of Hope by the Sophie & Harry Hoffman Chapter. Phoebe died from AML (acute myeloid leukemia), a rare form of leukemia. She was 3 years old. A merger will help the organization. The 1997 Walk for Hope ad jour- nal raised $20,000 to support City of Hope's Walk for Hope Against Breast Cancer in metro Detroit. Greenspan- Rosenberg Chapter members solicit ads from hundreds of local businesses to ensure the journal's success. Many City of Hope Chapter members will enjoy a day of fun at the 1998 Walk for Hope events taking place at Kensington Metropark and Metro Beach Metropark on Sunday, Oct. 11, and Saturday, Oct. 17. The chapter plans to raise addition- al funds by hosting some small events throughout the year, such as an art auction. The merger will enable both chapters to increase the success of their events. Designated as a clinical cancer research center by the National Cancer Institute, City of Hope offers a collaborative research environment in which scientific discoveries are trans- formed into lifesaving standards of care to benefit all people.
