Formerly known as B'nai B'rith Women, the organiza- tion supports the same issues, has a number of very active chapters in the Detroit area and is making plans to enter the new century. Its stated goal is "to strengthen the lives of women, children and fami- lies through education, advo- cacy and action." JWI has two important thrusts. The first is its phil- anthropic endeavors which go primarily to support its Residential Treatment Center and Children's Home —\ in Israel. This home, which c--/ treats badly abused children therapeutically, without ben- efit of drugs, has become a model world-wide and is a training center for medical, psychiatric and social work personnel from all over the world. JWI is proud of its 50- < year commitment to the treatment center and has begun a major fund-raising endeavor to that end. Called "A Month of Love Campaign," it involves the Detroit-area chapters joining with others in the organiza- tion's Mid-America region to,, -` raise funds to support the Children's Home completely for a full month. Besides personal giving, which cul- minates in a Special Gifts Luncheon honoring a local philanthropist, JWI will also help to raise money through the sale of tributes and cer- tificates, Entertainment c- - - \ / Books, rummage sales and other individual chapter efforts. The organizations's sec- ond thrust is both a local and national advocacy effort on domestic violence. One
