Women's League
Focus On Unity

T

he annual state Women's
League for Conservative
Judaism Spring
Conference on May 16,
1999, will focus on sharing Women's
League national convention ideas
from workshops, programming, and
t'fillot.
These ideas, in turn, will generate
new programs for the 2,000 women
who are members of the 11 sister-
hoods in Michigan Branch — Ann
Arbor Beth Israel, Bay City Temple
Israel, Farmington Hills Adat
Shalom, Flint Beth Israel, Grand
Rapids Ahavas Israel, Kalamazoo
Congregation of Moses, Oak Park
Beth Shalom, Southfield Shaarey
Zedek, and West Bloomfield's Beth
Abraham Hillel Moses and B'nai
Moshe.

Conservative
sisterhoods
working together.

Some of the issues to be discussed
are: characteristics of the sisterhood
of tomorrow, role of sisterhood in a
caring and growing synagogue, tak-
ing care of ourselves and benefiting
our families, grappling with sacred
texts, preparing the next generations
of Jews, and participating in social
action issues in local, national, and
world communities.
The goal of Michigan Branch is to
instill the ideals of Judaism into the
lives and homes of its members
through education, social action, and
religious observance.
The organization works with the
individual sisterhoods, and as a
group, and with its congregations to
achieve its goals.
It is a constituent of the Jewish
Community Council and makes its
viewpoints heard in the broader
Jewish community, and the generil
community as well.
In conjunction with Women's
League Institute, Michigan Branch
participates in the monthly Rosh
Chodesh Study Series - Eilu v'Eilu,
which are held at Borders Books in
Farmington Hills.
Other programs include a Torah
Fund Study Day on Oct. 21 and
Women's League Shabbat on Jan. 16.
