Go Blues

The annual Ann Arbor Blues and Jazz Festival hosts live music Sept 11-13,
with daylong activities on Saturday and Sunday in Gallup Park, where gates
open at 11 a.m. Performers in the park include Groove Collective at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday; and the New Orleans Klezmer All-Stars at 5 p.m., followed by Bo
Diddley at 6:30 p.m., on Sunday. One-day park pass $18/two-day pass $30/kids

Two Fairs, Two Cities

Two of summer's favorite art'fairs return for a weekend of great browsing and
buying. At Birmingham's Shain Park, Common Ground Sanctuary's "Art in the
Park" offers a newly expanded fair showcasing 170 artists from 30 states and
Canada, hands-on children's art activities, a Pewabic Pottery tile making area and

Municipal Park, the 'Art and Apples Festival" hosts 300 visual artists, live per-

Art Imitates Life

The Yiddish Film Series presents the film The Cantor's Son, based on the life
of its star, New York Cantor Moishe Oysher, who as a new immigrant gained

Bell Ringer

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra opens its 1998-99 classical season with
guest artist Joshua Bell. The 30-year-old violinist, a former child prodigy who is
one of the first classical musicians to be the focus of a music video, plays a 1732
Stradivari known as the "Tom Taylor."Neeme Jarvi will conduct works by Buck,
Mendelssohn and Mahler. Additional performance times are 8 p.m. Friday, Sept.

They Got Rhythm

The Ridgedale Players present Fascinatin' Gershwin, a musical celebration of
George Gershwin's 100th birthday in song and dance. A fund-raiser for
