Marks Selichot
Temple Beth El will mark Selichot
Saturday, Sept. 12, with an evening of
activities for all ages.
Events will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a
family dinner and a simultaneous teen
dinner and dance at 6:30 p.m.
Following dinner, there will be a variety
of activities for children including
movies, arts and crafts, story sessions
and games. Adult choices include a story
session, a movie followed by discussion
and an introduction to the Temple's
Torah writing project.
At 10 p.m. all will come together for
dessert buffet and a musical interlude
with pianist David Syme before entering
the Sanctuary at 11 p.m. Selichot service
at 11:30 p.m. will be preceded by a ded-
ication of new Torah covers and
Havdalah at 11:15 p.m.
All activities are open to the commu-
nity. There is a charge for dinner of $5
per person with a $15 per family maxi-
mum. Participants are also asked to
bring a dessert for the dessert buffet. For

Selichot Program
Features Film
The Long Way Home, the documentary
film about post war life in Europe
immediately following the Holocaust,
will be the featured presentation at the
pre-Selichot evening 8:45 p.m. Saturday,
Sept. 12, at Congregation Shaarey
Zedek in Southfield.
The film examines the critical post-
World War II period between 1945 and
1948 and the struggle of the tens of
thousands of displaced Jewish refugees
to find dignity and renewal in the after-
math of the Nazi Holocaust.
The film will be followed by refresh-
ments and the Selichot service in the
main sanctuary at 11 p.m. Admission to
the film and the service is open to the
entire community.
