Soprano Pamela Schiffer will lead
High Holy Day services, along with
Cantor Harold Orbach at Temple
Israel. She served
for 13 years as
the cantorial
soloist at Temple
Beth Israel in
York, Pa., before
her recent move
to our area from
Baltimore.
Active as a
soloist and
Pamela Schiffer
recitalist in both
contemporary and traditional reper-
toire, performing throughout the
United States, Canada and Europe,
Ms. Schiffer is a resident artist of
the Contemporary Music Forum in
Washington, D.C., where she per-
forms regularly in its series at the
Corcoran Gallery. She is a recipient
of a Solo Recitalists Fellowship from
the National Endowment of the
Arts.

Sholem Aleichem Institute will have
its annual holiday assembly at the
Orchard Lake Middle School in West
Bloomfield 10 a.m.-noon Monday,
Sept. 21.
A specially prepared Machzor con-
taining material culled from old and
new Jewish sources, and Hebrew and
Yiddish prose and poetry will be
used.

Selichot Video

Tot Shabbat
At Beth El

There will be a Selichot video pre-
sentation titled "The Last Jewish
Wedding in Amsterdam" 9:15 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 12, at Congregation
Beth Abraham Hillel Moses, prior to
Selichot Services. This is the last
home movie of a Jewish wedding in
Nazi-occupied Holland to have sur-
vived the Holocaust.
It will be introduced by Rabbi
Aaron Bergman; a discussion will fol-
low. Refreshments will be served.
Services follow at 11 p.m.

Temple Beth El's Tot Shabbat pro-
gram will resume Sept. 19 with a
salute to the new year. "Apples and
Honey Shabbat" will begin with an
informal service at 9:30 a.m. fol-
lowed by Snack 'n Craft at 10 a.m.
Tot Shabbat is geared to toddlers
and young children and their moms
and dads. Grandparents are welcome
to participate as well in this program
designed to introduce Shabbat and
holidays in song and story to the
young.
