Mass Held
Near Auschwitz

New York (JTA) — The U.S.
Justice Department began
deportation hearings against an
Illinois man whose citizenship
was revoked for lying about the
atrocities he committed during
World War II.
Earlier this year, a judge
ruled that Bronislaw Hajda
unquestionably" participated in
a massacre of Jewish prisoners
during the liquidation of the
Treblinka death camp in 1944.
Sixty people have lost their
U.S. citizenship for hiding their
Nazi past since the Justice
Department began rooting
them out in 1979. Of those, 48
have been deported.

New York (JTA) — A priest
from a Polish Catholic fringe
group celebrated Mass amid the
more than 150 crosses that were
erected recently near the
Auschwitz death camp.
Some 200 worshipers
applauded the priest when he
criticized the Polish Bishops
Council, the highest body of
the Polish Roman Catholic
Church, which called for the
crosses' removal.
Earlier, Poland's president
criticized the ongoing campaign
to erect crosses near the site of
the Auschwitz death camp.

New York (JTA) — A member
of hockey's Hall of Fame is
expected to meet soon with
Canadian Jewish and black
leaders to explain pro-Hitler
and anti-black remarks attrib-
uted to him recently by a
Moscow newspaper.
Bobby Hull requested the
meeting in order to tell his side
of the story.
The meeting is expected to
be held within the next two
weeks.
