Michael Maddin, chair of the 100 Year Celebration of the organized Jewish com-
munity of Detroit, places a yarmulka on the head of Charles Forbes, in appreciation
for Mr. Forbes' hosting a thank you gathering for the celebration's volunteers at the
Gem Theater This was the first event to take place in the almost-refurbished the-
ater, moved in its entirety to a new location in downtown Detroit.

In celebration of Israel's 50th anniver-
sary a fashion show will be presented by
the Women's Division and New
Leadership Division of State of Israel
Bonds, 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek.
Using the theme "Generations,"
Israel Bonds women, their daughters,
daughters-in-law and grandchildren will
participate as models. These families
represent ties with Israel through Israel
Bonds dating back to the early years of
the state. It will be followed by child-ori-
ented boutiques, clowns and a casual
buffet dinner topped off by a special
sundae bar. There is a charge for chil-
dren between the ages of 3 and 13 and
adults over 13 years of age.

begin its fall schedule with the open-
ing of Sunday school 9:30 a.m. Sept.
13, at the Workmen's Circle
Educational Building.
Rosh Hashanah observance will
take place 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21,
at the Southfield Parks and
Recreation Building; Yom Kippur
Observance: 2 p.m. Wednesday,
Sept. 30, at the Southfield Parks and
Recreation Building.
On Sunday, Sept. 27 at 9:30 a.m.
the first monthly Kumzitz will dis-
cuss "The Gifts of the Jews: Why
does the Western World Dream
Jewish Dreams?"

B'nai David
Selichot Plans

The Cultural Commission of
Congregation B'nai David will present a
pre-Selichot viewing of the movie The
Chosen 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12.
Refreshments will be served after the
movie, followed by Selichot services,
conducted by Cantor Ben-Zion
Lanxner.
