Bar/Bat Mitzvah

of the late Louis Hyman and the late
Robert Victor.
Her most meaningful mitzvah project
was assisting at the Special Olympics
presented by the Michigan Jewish Sports
Hall of Fame. She also served as a vol-
unteer at the Maccabi Games. An honor
student at Abbott Middle School in
West Bloomfield, Kara enjoys dance,
cheerleading and art; and she loves ani-
mals.

Jeffrey Ryan Rotenberg will be called to
the Torah as a bar mitzvah on Friday,
Sept. 11, at Temple Israel. He is the son
of Sheri and Robert
Rotenberg and broth-
er of Erin and Lainie.
Proud grandparents
are Claire and Harry
Mendelson and Terry
and Milton Roten-
berg. Excited great-
grandmothers are
Pauline Bell and Sadie
Schwartz. He is also the grandson of the
late Dr. Arthur Schwartz.
Mitzvah projects include donating to
the "Make A Wish Foundation," volun-
teering at the Holocaust Memorial Cen-
ter and assisting at the Temple Israel pic-
nic. An honor student at West Hills
Middle School in Bloomfield Hills, Jef-
frey loves all sports, including soccer,
baseball and basketball and especially
hockey.

Michael Steven Morton will celebrate
his bar mitzvah at Temple Israel on Fri-
day, Sept. 18. He is the son of Elaine
and Dr. Allan Morton and brother of
Jeremy. Proud grand-
parents are Kalmayne
and Morris Morton.
He is also the grand-
son of the late
Nathalie and Bert
Kratie.
He enjoyed work-
ing with younger chil-
dren as part of his
mitzvah projects; he also donated to the
American Cancer Society. Attending
West Hills Middle School in Bloomfield
Hills, Michael is interested in tennis,
golf, basketball, soccer, whitewater raft-
ing and collecting basketball cards.

Elyse Lauren Gildenberg will be called
to the Torah as a bat mitzvah at Congre-
gation Shaarey Zedek on Saturday, Sept.
12. Elyse is the daughter of Arlene and
Alan Gildenberg and the sister of Eric
and Jamie. Proud grandparents are Edde

and Jack Backalar and
Vivian and David
Gildenberg. She is
also the great-grand-
daughter of Bessie
Friedman.
Elyse is an honor
student at Orchard
Lake Middle School
in West Bloomfield, where she plays the
flute in the symphony band. She also
enjoys drama, music, computers and
especially dance. Elyse was recently
awarded a dance scholarship from
Annette & Co. School of Dance.
Elyse's mitzvah projects included vol-
unteering at Shaarey Zedek's Camp Bet-
man and the Friendship Circle at the
JCC. She also donated baby sitting
money to the Muscular Dystrophy
Association.

Mark Baum, son of Bernice and Martin
Baum, will be called to the Torah as a
bar mitzvah at Temple Shir Shalom on
Saturday, Sept. 12.
Sharing in this cel-
ebration will be his
brother Adam, who is
traveling from Vir-
ginia to be with him.
Mark is the grandson
of Ida Storbinsky and •
the late Abraham
Storbinsky, and the
late Herman and Mary Baum.
Mark is a student at Berkshire Mid-
dle School in Birmingham. He enjoys
computers, in-line skating and attending
Camp Maas in the summer. Mark is the
founding member of Berkshire Middle
Schools' Technology Club. Mark's mitz-
vah projects include working at the
COTS shelter, helping with the fourth
grade class at Temple Shir Shalom, and
helping seniors at the McDonnell Tow-
ers.
