PROVIDENCE CHILDREN 'S UNIT

Providence Children's Unit understands
the special needs of children and their families

43-

Whether it's a childhood illness, surgical procedure

or a patient with special needs, Providence Hospital

reported that one batch had the Ha-
1 vor of soap — Kolender and Dorf-
: man at last discovered the perfect
recipe.
Today, after 10 months on the mar-
ket, the rice pudding is doing well.
Working at home with two babies
is fun, yet different from the profes-
sional world, the women say (Dorf-
man left her practice when her
daughter, Bryana, was born). They
try to work during nap times and,
instead of going out to lunch they
now fix toddler-appropriate foods that
all four can munch on.
Both women feel satisfied that they
made the right decision to change
careers when they did.
Kolender especially loves the fact
that, with this new business, she can
be with her daughter, Zoe, all day.
"Kids grow up so fast," she said: "I
wouldn't want to miss that."
Dorfman is of like mind. 'I'm glad
to have the option to work at home
instead of dropping my daughter off
at day care while I work," she said.
"If you have a dream and you put
your mind to it, you can do it."

and Medical Centers has always provided compas-

sionate, quality care for children.

Now, we're expanding our services for children,

their families and physicians by creating the

Providence Children's Unit at Providence Hospital

in Southfield. This dedicated pediatric wing

will provide care to pediatric patients requiring

surgery and is designed to offer patients and

their families the comforts of home, open visitation

and accommodates parents who want to sleep

in their child's room.

Patients and their parents will benefit from the caring, highly-trained staff at

Providence Hospital. Routine surgical cases as well as complex multi-specialty

surgeries can be handled with attentive, comprehensive care.

And you'll be glad to know the Providence Children's Unit provides 24-hour

pediatric critical care coverage by board-certified pediatric intensivists who
focus on pain management, a pediatric

anesthesiologist, a certified nurse practitioner

and a pediatric social worker.
