12 Detroit Jewish News

David Gad-Harf, executive director of
the Jewish Community Council of
Metropolitan Detroit, grew up in Erie,
Pa., and that their fathers work
together. Through her dad, she found
Walter Harf and got David's phone
number.
Gad-Harf, in turn, got in touch
with Rabbi Gross and Gary Torgow,
president of Yeshiva Beth Yehuda.
"I just called the people in the
community I knew to see what they
could do," Gad-Harf said. "Gross
spoke to Mordechai's father and got
the transcripts and figured he'd fit in
well."
The Srolovitzes were out of town
until two weeks before school started.
Confirming them as hosts took five
days, Torgow said, adding, "The fami-
ly was enthusiastic about him corning
in. It was a beautiful gesture to take
him in." ❑
