New Americans
Workshop Set

There will be a High Holiday Work-
shop for new Americans 10:30 a.m.
Sunday, Sept. 13 at Congregation
Beth Shalom. This workshop will
explore the traditions and rituals of
Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, as
well as teach the new Americans some
of the prayers associated with the
High Holidays.
Participants in the workshop will
learn and practice the barchot for an
aliyah, in preparation for their group
aliyah at the exciting New American
Shabbat Oct. 3.
Following services Oct. 3,
Congregation Beth Shalom will dedi-
cate The Gathering Place — a special
place in the synagogue for new
Americans to call their own. It was
made possible by a donation from the
Ben N. Teitel Trust, Gerald S. Cook,
trustee, in memory of his beloved
grandparents, Morris Teitel and Bessie
Teitel.

The Temple Beth El Sisterhood will
offer the community the opportunity
to address legal issues 7 p.m. Tuesday,
Sept. 15, when they present "Ask the
Judges" at the temple.
The program, open to all at no
charge, will feature a panel of Temple
Beth El judges moderated by the
Nancy G. Edmunds, U.S. District
Court, Eastern District of Michigan.

Appearing with her will be Avern
Cohn, U.S. District Court, Eastern
District of Michigan; Martin
Doctoroff, Michigan State Court of
Appeals; and Walter Shapero, United
States Bankruptcy Judge, Eastern
District of Michigan.

Community Center will host story-
teller Corrine Stavish 1 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 10. There is no
charge.
The Yiddish/Jewish Film Festival
will show The Cantor's Son 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 13, and 12:45 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 14. There is no charge.
Nurse Sharon Tomaszewski of The
Oakland County Public Health
Department will speak on managing
arthritis and osteoporosis 10 a.m.
Monday, Sept. 14.
The Charles and Frances Driker
Fund Concert, "Israel at 50: Living
the Dream," featuring Cantor Sidney c=\
Resnick and pianist Lillian Zellman,
will be Thursday, Sept. 17. Lunch will
be served at noon. Tickets are $2.25
and may be purchased at the front
desk by Friday, Sept. 11. The program
will begin at 1 p.m. No tickets are
needed for the concert.
For Women Only meets 10:30 a.m.
every Thursday.
Kosher lunches are served for adults
ages 60 and older Monday through
Friday. Friday programs include bless-
ings, wine, candles and challah.

Sisterhood Hosts
Florine Mark

Temple Israel Sisterhood's opening
meeting, noon Monday, Sept. 14, will
feature Florine Mark, with "Can we
talk..." Her presentation will reflect
her experiences as a wife, mother,
grandmother and CEO of Weight
Watchers International.
The luncheon meeting will be free
to paid-up Temple Israel Sisterhood
members. Annual dues of $30 may be
paid at the door. Guests are welcome
to attend for $10 and baby-sitting will
be available for $5 per child, by reser-
vation.
