Community and the Temple Treasures
will host Jewish Humor with Rabbi
Arnie Sleutelberg 1:30-3 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 17 at Temple Israel.
This program is part of the month-
ly senior adult programming and is
open to the community free of
charge.

Communal Wedding

Four recently-arrived couples from
Russia will re-establish their wedding
vows as they enter for the first time
into the traditional Jewish marriage
rite of chuppah 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6
at Rothstein Park.
The couples include: Ana and
Leonid Beznosov, Kira and
Aleksander Leytus, Bella and
Vyacheslav Rakhamimov, Luba and
Leonid Sherman. Prior to the event,
the women will prepare themselves by
immersion in a mikvah.
The public is invited free of
charge. Sponsors and patrons will
escort the brides and grooms to the
chuppah (marriage canopy) and recit-
ing the nuptial blessings. For more

Studies at Wayne
State University
will initiate its
10th anniversary
with a program
commemorating
the 50th anniver-
sary of the State
of Israel 7:30
p.m. Monday,
Sept. 14 at the
Derek Penslar
Janice Charach
Epstein Museum
Gallery. Professor Derek J. Penslar of
the University of Toronto will deliver
a lecture titled "Are Israelis Zionists?
Jewish Identity in the Jewish State."
The program is free.
