Maldonado, endorsed by Right to
Life of Michigan and Citizens For
Traditional Values, acknowledged that
in the district in which he's running,
his back is against the wall.

"It's a high Democratic area," he
said, "but anything's possible."
Maldonado, self-described as a "reg-
ular, ordinary person," is running
because he feels it's his civic duty.
"I think everybody should run for
something," he said. "I'm exercising
my right as a citizen."
• Maldonado, who stays at home to
care for his 6-year-old son and 3-year-
old daughter while his wife, Jody,
works as a computer systems project
manager, is most concerned about
parental rights, property rights and
public school reform.
Gubow withdrew his bid to win the
Democratic nomination for state
Attorney General on Aug. 28, the day
before the Michigan Democratic
Convention.
"I had a fair amount of grass-roots
support, but I didn't have a lot of
party leadership behind me," said
Gubow. "I though it would be better
to go into the convention with more
of a consensus."
Jennifer Granholm of Northville
hopes to become the first woman
attorney general in Michigan. She'll
take on Republican nominee John
Smietanka of Ada in November.
Gubow is still unsure of his next
move.
"At this point, I really don't know,
but all reasonable offers will be consid-
ered," he said. El
