radley Dembs got a double
treat when his two sets of
grandparents celebrated their
50th anniversaries.
The 11-year-old, and his parents,
Howard and Terri, took a cruise to the
Bahamas with Charlotte and Sherwin
Corlin in early August and then went to
Paradise Island with Ann and Phil
Dembs in mid-August.
The double scoop: the Dembs
met the Corlins 18 years ago, when
their son, Howard, began dating his
future wife, Terri Corlin. The two
families became friends over the

Two area couples with lots in common
celebrate by packing their bags.

Toronto and meeting every February
in Florida.
As their anniversaries approached,
both couples told their children and
grandchildren they didn't want a party
They offered to take them on vacation
instead but could not arrange their
schedules so they all could go together.
So they improvised.
Sherwin and Charlotte Corlin, next-
door neighbors as children in Detroit,
shared their 50th anniversary with six
family members who celebrated with a
four-day cruise on the Royal Caribbean

ship Viking Serenade. The pair, who
married Aug. 21, 1948, have two chil-
dren and two grandchildren, including
Bradley Dembs.
The highlight of the Aug. 4 trip,
cruising from Los Angeles to San
Diego, Santa Catalina Island, and Ense-
nada, Mexico, was "the first dinner on
board, when we were all together,"
Charlotte said.
The Dembs, who met May 1, 1947,
on a blind date at a hayride in Detroit,
took a trip to the Paradise Islands earlier
this month with 10 family members in

tow, including Howard, Terri and
Bradley.
The highlight of "three days in par-
adise" was "having the children all
together at one time," Ann Dembs said.
"I call it shep naches, seeing them all get-
ting close, and getting to celebrate with
them. Their enjoyment was our enjoy-

ment."

The Dembs, who married on Sept.
5, 1948, have four sons, 15 grandchil-
dren and one great-grandchild on the
way.
Howard, Terri and Bradley Dembs i
the only biological link between the
Corlins and the Dembs, enjoyed both
trips. Howard said the highlights were
"seeing the joy that my parents and in-
laws shared in having the family
together." 111_
