AIDS Updates
The Michigan Jewish AIDS Coalition
will offer training in AIDS 101 and
updates for those who have already
been through the training. Sunday,
Sept. 13, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.; Tuesday, Sept.

Community Center will host Cafe
Europa Detroit, a program for
Holocaust survivors, families and
friends, sponsored by DMC/Sinai
Hospital and the Jewish Community
Center 1:30 p.m. Sunday„Aug. 30.
Donations will be accepted.
A concert with Yiddish and Hebrew
music and some Broadway tunes will be
presented by Cantor Sidney Resnick
and pianist Nathalie Conrad 1 p.m.
Monday, Aug. 31. This program is free
of charge
A Yiddish group facilitated by
Chaim Rozenthal will meet 1 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 3. This program is free
of charge. -
Storyteller Corrine Stavish will enter-
tain with stories pertaining to the High
Holidays 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10.
There is no charge.
Meeting of the Minds, conducted
by Dave Weiner and Sidney Miller,
will meet 10:30 a.m. every Thursday.
There is no charge.
Adult art classes, instructed by
Harriet Gelfond, are held every
Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9
a.m. to noon. There is a charge which
includes art supplies.

Sets Training
The Michigan Jewish AIDS Coalition
(MJAC) will conduct training this fall
about HIV/AIDS and its prevention.
This two part training titled HIV/AIDS
101 will contain information for all
individuals 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday,
Sept. 13, and 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday,
Sept. 15, ar the MJAC office, 30161
Southfield.
Light refreshments will be served.

I Living Skills
Classes Set
A series of enrichment classes will kick
off this fall to teach work, social and
community living skills to adults with
developmental disabilities at the Jewish
Association for Residential Care
(JARC).
Topics in the series include: basic
cooking, developing leisure time inter-
ests, getting ready for work, first
impressions count, healthy lifestyles.
The series will run September
through May on selected Thursday
evenings from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Each
class runs five weeks. Classes will be
held at the JVS office in Southfield and
a $25 registration fee applies per five-
week class. For registration information,

Shir Tikvah
Education Plans
Congregation Shir Tikvah has begun
the enrollment for the 1998-99 Family
Education Program from preschool
through 6th grades beginning Sunday,
Sept. 13.
Preschool classes are held six times
throughout the year and focus on spe-•
cific holidays. K-3rd grade students
meet Sunday mornings between 9:30
a.m. and noon. Third-sixth graders
meet Sundays and Tuesday afternoon.
This year the program will focus on
exploring God through mitzvot.
Membership in Shir Tikvah is not
required for enrollment in the family
education program.

Sisterhood Hosts
A Storyteller
Congregation Shir Tikvah's Sisterhood
will begin its 1998-99 season with an
evening of fun and imaginative story:-
telling 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, ,Sept. 16.
Dinner will be served; a short - business
meeting will follow, leading into the
tales of storyteller Corinne Stavish.
The public-is invited; dinner reserva-
tions are required along with a $5 per
person donation from non-members to
cover the cost of the dinner. Sisterhood
membership is also open to non-con-
gregants of Shir Tikvah.
