THE ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE

isn't a "skirt chaser as he is described
in the American media, which is con-
trolled and managed by the Jews."
Clinton, the paper claimed, is an
"angel compared to President Kennedy
and his brothers," who reportedly had
dalliances with Marilyn Monroe.
What's the difference? "Marilyn
Monroe did not approach an indepen-
dent prosecutor to litigate the presi-
dent because she was not a Jew of
Polish background and was not con-
nected to AIPAC and Jewish pressure
groups."
Get it? AIPAC, the American Israel
Public Affairs Committee, the pro-
Israel lobby that has sometimes aired
its dirty laundry in public but which
has never before been charged with
making dirty laundry in defense of
Israel, orchestrated the entire
Lewinsky affair to blackmail the presi-
dent and prevent him from pushing
his initiative for reviving the stalled
Israeli-Palestinian talks.
"And so," the paper concludes, "the
stained dress was pulled out of the
AIPAC warehouse."
The Palestinian report, which was
quickly distributed over the Internet
by Prime Minister Binyamin
Netanyahu's office, produced some
mirth at AIPAC, which has a number
of departments but — at least accord-
ing to several inside sources — no
ladies dress department.
"It's a sad commentary that these
kinds of conspiracy theories make it
that much more difficult to deal with
each other pragmatically and realisti-
cally and thoughtfully," said an
AIPAC spokesperson.

Finance Reform

So it's like this: the House of
Representatives, knowing the Senate is
unlikely to act in the limited number
of legislative days left before adjourn-
ment, passed a watered-down cam-
paign finance reform measure this
summer. It will look good to voters in
November, some cynical members
apparently reasoned, without doing
anything to staunch the flow of
money into campaign coffers.
At least that's the way many politi-
cal observers see it; the Shays-Meehan
bill, many believed, was an election-
year throwaway, a sop to voters who
clearly favor some kind of campaign
finance reform even if their elected
leaders regard it as political treife.
But the Religious Action Center of
Reform Judaism apparently didn't get
the message. The liberal group has
taken up the cause with a vengeance.
