Chodesh Study Series, which meets at

its schedule for the year 5758 7 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 23 with a shiur by com-
munity educator Ruth Bergman in
honor of the new month of Elul.
The subject will be, "Hannah and
Sarah: God, Fertility, and Rosh
Hashanah." No reservations are
required.
The series will launch its new fall
season at Borders 7 p.m. Sunday
night, Sept. 27, with a shiur in honor
of the new month of Tishrei and the
new year 5759. Hillel Day School
teacher Daphna Feldman will discuss:
"The Book of Jonah_ and Themes of

Rabbi Leo M. Franklin, rabbi of
Temple Beth El from 1899 to 1941,
will be remembered Sept. 10 through
Oct. 30 in "The Man and His
Message," an archival exhibit present-
ed by the Rabbi Leo M. Franklin
Archive of Temple Beth El.
On Sept. 9, a preview celebration
will be held to mark the opening of
the exhibit honoring Dr. Franklin's life
and his achievements. A 6:30 p.m.
buffet dinner at the temple will be fol-
lowed by the presentation of a special-
ly-commissioned video, "Bringing
Communities Together: The Legacy of
Rabbi Leo M. Franklin." The evening
will conclude with a tour of the exhib-
it. Cost of the preview is $50 per per-

"The Man and His Message" can
be viewed at no charge, daily through
Oct. 30, at the temple. Tours for
groups of 10 to 25 persons may also

Society Tours
Local Cemetery
The Jewish Historical Society of
Michigan will host a riding and walk-
ing tour of historic Woodmere
Cemetery on. Sunday morning, Aug.
30.
The cemetery bus tour will be led
by Dr. Martin F. Brosnan. The walk-
ing tour will visit the Beth El and
other Jewish sections.
The bus will leave 9 a.m. from
30100 Telegraph Road in Bingham
Farms (south side of the building) and
return around noon. The cost is $18
per JHS member and $23 for non-

Barbara Eisenberg and Linda
Schechter have accepted the leadership
of this year's Kadima Benefit, set for
Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Orchestra Hall.
The featured performer will be Rita
Rudner. The opening act will be
Amazin Blue.
Kadima is a non-profit, non-sectari-
