n Aug. 5, 20 special needs
children got a chance to mix
it up with a local baker.
Bruce Weiss- of Zeman's
Bakery in Oak Park was invited to talk
about his dude at Able Abe's Special
Camp for Special Children, run by
West Bloomfield-based Abilities
Center. He brought cupcakes to deco-
rate and aprons and hats to take home
to remind the campers of their day.
"It was really fulfilling," said Weiss,
whose wife, Nicky, works at the
Abilities Center. "If it brought them
joy, then it was a nice thing to do."
The camp runs for two weeks for
kids 4 to 11 years old and is housed at
the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer
in Birmingham.
According to Abilities Center
President Jill Spokojny, some of the chil-
dren who attend the camp have autism,
are blind, or use a wheelchair. ❑
