hen Isaac Mizrahi was a
little boy in the Flatbush
Yeshiva, his teachers did
not appreciate the
sketches they found in the school's
Bibles. But how could they have
known that little Isaac would grow up
to be the "Darling of Seventh
Avenue"?
After all, he was already designing c
pieces for his mother and all of her
Brooklyn friends.
Mizrahi learned how
to sew and cut from
his father, a chil-
dren's wear manufac-
turer. "He personally
custom-fit my pow-

sportswear has helped garner him
three awards from the Council of
Fashion Designers of America, two of
them for designer of the year.
Anyone who is familiar with Isaac
Mizrahi recognizes him for his colorful
personality just as much as for his
tweed skirts. In the 1995 documentary
Unzipped, the public was treated to
Ivtizrahi's chutzpah and biting humor.
'He's also done some acting, including
an appearance on the ABC television
series "Spin City," and as an alien in
last summer's hit film Men in Black.
He wears success well. He's lost 30
pounds, his trademark bandanna and
his Don King hair.
Mizrahi's latest venture is the
graphic novel Isaac Mizrahi Presents
the Adventures of Sandee the Super
Model.
